"Origins": A Journey Born from a Map
Steve Hartman believes through the Voyage Collection, you can tell the most personal journeys. Take, for instance, a recent commission titled "Origins," a deeply meaningful piece created for a patron passionate about travel and their unique life journey. The artwork began with a vintage 1950s map of Spain, a nostalgic backdrop upon which Steve meticulously layered elements to represent a pivotal moment: the patron's conception in 1960 on the island of Majorca, during her parents' honeymoon. Steve used acrylic paint to create soft, undulating ripples emanating from Majorca, symbolizing the ripple effect of that foundational event. Randomly placed spray paint circles add a dynamic, almost ethereal quality, while abstract watercolors trace the map's roadways, introducing a new layer of texture and hinting at life's unfolding paths.
